ALL ABOUT EGYPT

A language connects people

Dina Gamal

I was born in Kuwait to Egyptian parents, a really multi-Arab society.  From a young age, I sensed the differences between the Arabic dialects and  cultures; as well as the similarities.

In 1984, I moved to Egypt to join university, where I reconnected to my home country and embarked on a new life adventure.

In 1987 I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Advertising from the faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University.  I was taught Modern Standard Arabic in more depth, and taught the techniques of eloquent Arabic writing and pronunciation.

later in 1987 I decide to pursue my other passion, ancient Egypt.  I therefore became a certified Tour Guide after having studied Egyptology and Egyptian Monuments.

From 1988 to 2005 I worked as a Tour Guide in Egypt.  I took my groups on classic tours, like the Pyramids and the Valley of the Kings.  And I also took them to exotic places, like the camel market or hikes through the deserts.  During our long excursions and trips, I taught many interested tourists basic Arabic.  Tourists were proud to engage in short conversations in Arabic with different people, and some were even capable of writing and reading a few Arabic words.

On one of my tours, I met the love of my life, a Dutch guy.  This allowed me to start another wonderful adventure, here in the Netherlands.

In 2009 I founded my company, "All About Egypt," aiming to communicate the rich and diverse heritage of Egypt as well as its language; as I believe that language connects people.

Teaching the Egyptian dialect, the series of Kalaam Masri was released.

Between 2017-2022 the first three parts were published. More parts are to follow in  2023.

I hope I can give you a flavour of the legacy of a country so rich and fascinating, and full of the unexpected!
